Learn Globally/ Resist Trump Locally: Lessons from Global Resistance

If you are resisting Trump, you are not the first to resist an authoritarian. In honor of #NotMyPresidentsDay –  Beautiful Trouble launched a 1-hour webinar series with activist leaders from movements around the globe. These activists shared lessons and insights on creative action to combat regimes.

Part 1

Speakers include:

  • Jessica Barbosa, a Popular laywer, Brazilian Feminist Activist in Diadorim Feminist Group, and Women’s Rights Assistant in ActionAid Brazil.
  • Carolina Munis is a member of Escola de Ativismo (School of Activism) and a coordinator at Transformação, a popular education center for the transgender community in São Paulo, Brazil.
  • Sergio Beltrán Arruti a fierce spiritual warrior, focusing his efforts on encouraging people to take responsibility for their own garbage, promote and support alternatives for real learning, community communication experiments around the world and gift culture practices.

Black Body Survival Guide with Terry Marshall of Intelligent Mischief

The first BT TN HangOut, Live!, feat. the (sur)real Black Body Survival Guide took place Wednesday Aug 5th.

For our inaugural call, we were joined by Terry Marshall of Intelligent Mischief – a co-conspirator behind the (sur)real Black Body Survival Guide in the 21st century.

The Black Body Survival Guide is a multi-media compilation of satirical tips, tricks, and tools created in response to the current moment in the history of violence against black people. It is a survival book, survival tools, performance art, a survival online tv show and social media campaign carefully co-created in consultation with black people of all backgrounds.

Climate Games and Beyond! Creative Activism at COP in Paris

On November 18th, the BTTN Hangout Live! hosted organizers working on actions around the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP21) from November 30 – December 11 in Paris.

As we were online during the webinar, news was released that the French authorities extended the State of Emergency for 3 months, and have banned all public demonstrations, including the mass Climate March originally scheduled for November 29th.

Making Trouble at the Conventions

Wednesday, July 13th, the BTTN Hangout Live! series continued in part 3 with artivistas and creative action organizers for the Republican National Convention and Democratic National Convention.

We were joined by:

Together, we discussed the artistic/cultural/strategic considerations that were part of developing these actions/ creative pieces, along with the ways the current political climate has shaped or shifted plans.
