On April 9th, 2017 – Beautiful Trouble partnered with the Hammer Museum to host a one-of-a-kind training on Creative Direct Action for nearly 500 people at the historic Wiltern Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. The event was called ‘Stand Up and Fight Back: Tactics and Strategies for Effective Creative Activism‘.
Training Director Nadine Bloch was joined on stage by legendary civil rights organizer Reverand James Lawson for a 3-hour presentation that included a dive into creative tactics through a look at global case studies as well as several interactive exercises.
With support from the tech crew with the Hammer Museum and the Wiltern Theater, trainers were able to fishbowl several exercises – including a Hassel Line and a risk arrest scenraio — through a big screen and live feed projection. The massive crowd worked in pairs and small groups to discuss what was happening on stage and passed around microphones to debrief in the whole group.
